There is a revive Port Charles campaign going on.  I did not start this and cannot take any credit for it however I want to help pass the word to all the Port Charles fans still out there.  If you check out my forum there is a link to it.

Everyone be very careful going to TV Megasite. They have a terrible mal vundo virus on parts of their soap forums. I got one from them at work that was so bad, my computer shut itself down completely. There were 15 invasions of it on the computer in literally seconds. And the problem with mal vundo is that you don't have to open an attachment or anything. You just click on the site.

Be VERY careful unless you want to spend the day with the Geek Squad.

^^^Dolly, I mentioned this last week in another thread.

Unfortunately it happened to me in work too and the IT guys told me it was one of the worse virus's they had ever seen.  They had my computer for over a week.  Although they got a kick out of the porn that popped up on my sreen.  Thats the running joke in my office now . . . June looks at porn during work!!  LOL!!

We don't have any viruses on our site.  There are a lot of pop up ads, but no virus.  Our forum is hosted on Delphi.  If Delphi has a virus, every forum there could be infected.  Since I'm on Delphi every day and I have never gotten a virus, I don't think they have/had any.

Dear other Thorsten Kaye fans,

Nikky let me know about your posts here. I run The TV MegaSite at http://tvmegasite.net.  Let me just add my assurances that our site has no malicious scripts, viruses, worms, etc.  Our forums are hosted on Delphiforums.com, not on our own site, but they are a very old and reputable site that has been around since the 90's. They would never have anything like that on their site (don't even think it's possible since their site does not allow posting of scripts and such).

I posted on our hosts forum what you said and asked how I could reassure you further.  This is what I was told by one of the people who runs Delphiforums.

Trojan horse programs (Vundo is a trojan horse) do not install themselves just by visiting a website. From Trend Micro's page about Vundo at http://threatinfo.trendmicro.com/vinfo/virusencyclo/default5.asp?vname=TROJ_VUNDO.BNG :

"A Trojan horse program is a malware that is not capable of automatically spreading to other systems. Trojans are usually downloaded from the Internet and installed by unsuspecting users.

"Trojans typically carry payloads or other malicious actions that can range from the mildly annoying to the irreparably destructive. They may also modify system settings to automatically start. Restoring affected systems may require procedures other than scanning with an antivirus program."

It is far more likely that someone picked it up somewhere else, and it kicked into action while visiting a forum here. Malware is often designed to disguise where it came from, so it has a better chance of infecting others. Having a bunch of things that cause alerts to happen could very well be part of that obfuscation process.

This post at bleepingcomputer.com has some excellent suggestions about protecting your system from being infected in the first place:

It takes effort to be safe online, but it's time and energy well spent.

Thanks, and I hope you continue to visit our site and our forums!

I'm sorry to have to disagree with you here, but I have to say that I know for a fact that it was TVMega site that gave me the virus.  I have no idea how it happened as I don't know much about computers at all.  But the IT guys at the U of P do.

I was working ALL morning, online, and had no problems . . . then I just clicked on TVMega site and the rest is history.  I had that site in my favorites so I just clicked on and my whole computer froze and nothing but porn popped up on my screen.  And the more I tried to get rid of it . . . the more popped up.

IT had my computer for over a week and said that it was one of the worse viruses they had ever seen.

That has never happened to me and I'm on the site both at home & at work all the time.  I know there are annoying pop ups...but never a virus and certainly not porn.

I do know Delphi had some issues recently and no one could get onto any forums, they said they had it fixed however I had issues again later.  Still no virus or porn.
