Zach Slater!  The one and only!

Gosh, I miss him SO badly   It's not getting any easier with time.  I still find myself thinking about Zach just as often as I used to when he was gracing my TV screen.  Today, for some strange reason, I have been remembering all the times that Zach was trapped in various situations and unpleasant confines, but he was always able to break free.  Let's see :

  • Trapped in the shed with Maria when Edmund locked them in. WHOA, the sheer force of determination with which he broke down that wall!
  • The Green One locked him in the supply closet (OMG, Zach talking to the bird "you sucked at Chicken Run" was so hilarious), I don't recall seeing exactly how he got out of there, but it is safe to assume he outsmarted The Green One in a snap, LOL.
  • Locked in the vault with Thadeass overnight, LOL.  Although it was Alfred the banker who lets them out the next morning, it was shocking (NOT) that Zach spent his time solving the Di/Dragon connection mystery, while Thadeass wasted his time and energy being his usual ASS.
  • Trapped in the igloo, in the aftermath of Mardi Gras explosion.  Too, too painful to think about.  But after all the anguish, it was Zach's voice that reached the rescuers!
  • Dr. Madman locked him and Dixie in the vault.  Damn, PURE GENIUS that was able to break out of there!
  • When ACS locked Zach at the storage!  Again, pure genius at work!
  • The Bomb Shelter.  OKaye, so technically, Kaidan's ONS led to the rescue, but the only reason it did not turn into a "recovery" mission is because of Zach's survival skills.  Even if he had to eat snake meat and stale crackers and drink cheap booze.  He even kept The Green One alive!
  • After being tossed around by the tornado, Zach managed to jump out of the mangled car in the midst of live wires, OMG, I still remember sitting on the edge of my chair through that one!
  • And towards the end, as AIDIOT ties Zach up?  I found it hysterical that the former commando could not keep Zach tied up for more than a few minutes, LOL.
  • Oh, and let's not forget the many, many times Zach was in his own (you all remember how Derek always had one ready for Zach?) holding cell.  There were times he let things play out.  But when he wanted to get out, he made it happen in a snap!
These are a few things I remember off the top of my head, I am sure you ladies can add some of your own to it.  And of course, there were the many times Zach was able to break INTO places, without being detected!  Madden's clinic, Madden's office, Madden's island, Wildwind, Chandler tunnel, and so on.  Unlike Rylee, he never did it to snoop or to be nosy.  Then again, why even compare Zach to the termites?

Let me warn you ladies, until I get to see TK back on my TV on a regular basis again, I will get this kind of sudden, unstoppable urge every so often to "let's talk Zach".  You know, this misery definitely would love some company

I know, Searose...........

I saw someone with a bruised face today and I immediately had a flashback of JR arriving at the Yacht Club with a bruised face, having had himself fake-kidnapped and Zach saying "Joonyer! - - - you look beat!"

Oh, Searose....what wonderful memories!!
I can't listen to the Michael Buble song, "Home" without seeing Zach sitting on the floor of that jail cell.  That's one of my favorite songs....because it always comes with a visual of Zach.
And when Zach was locked in the pool supply closet with the parrot, and he told him "You sucked in Chicken Run!", I thought that was one of the funniest ad libs TK's ever done!!  Brilliant!  Didn't Lilly end up coming in there and letting him out??

You've got lots of company when it comes to missing TK!  We're all miserable.  Please give in to those urges to "Talk Zach" whenever they strike.  At least when we talk about him, it feels like he's still around.

Thanks for starting this thread.....let's keep TK on everyone's mind!

I've missed talking about Zach!  Thanks for starting this!  I loved all of the scenes you mentioned, Searose, not to mention the one Anne brought up - the Buble song, "Home" playing while Zach sat on the floor of his cell, chained to the bed & fingering his beautiful ring.  OMG- I totally wore out my tape during that time!  I must've played that 500 times!  Not to mention I had to buy the Buble CD!  I miss Zach so much- there will never be another character like Zach Slater- just won't- I'm sorry.  As much as I loved and respected all his other characters, Zach is just his signature role, IMO & such a dynamic & incredible character- and never really tapped into like he should've been.  I hate thinking of all the great stuff they missed.  But I enjoyed the ride!  Thanks again for getting a Zach thread going!

Missing Zach so so very much! just had to start all over AGAIN with watching the re-runs. And yesterday at work (lunchtime treat!) found myself watching clip 05/17/05 - (When Maria say's goodbye to Zach)
OMG, OMG Geeees, Zach was so tender and understanding of her need to leave; and so emotionally torn.
The tightness in my throat couldn't hold back my tears!!! It was like watching it for the very first time. (Should of had tissues at the ready!!!)

Zach has so many layers; And we have come to love every single one of them his Strength, Loyalty, Trust, Honor, Forgiveness and Unconditional Love.

GEEES WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO WHITHOUT THIS MAN?

Oh Searose . . . you melt my heart.

I can talk about Zach almost anytime . . . except maybe at 5:30 in the morning so I'll come back later with some of my favorites.

But I was wondering . . . does anyone know the date of when Edmund locked Zach and Maria in the shed??  I just don't remember seeing that.

Thanks!!

Thank you Searose and Thank you All - At least we can come here and we can watch wonderful scenes over and over - This has been so depressing and then the Red Wings are out of the playoffs - It has to get better - At least we can appreciate the good things - TK is with his family and that is really important - Did not want him to be away from family for the likes of AMC - The Red Wings will be back soon for the 2010 season - Peggy

I am so glad you all are with me in this.  If we can't have Zach's story continue, at least we can talk about Zach, remembering the thrill of the ride!  It does ease the pain a tiny little bit.

Sharon, I totally agree with you.  I will always love any character TK plays (heck, I would even fall in love with Ivan The Terrible if TK were to play the role, LOL), but compared to Ian and Patrick, Zach had a much longer run, and Zach's character had many, many layers.  Incomplete as it was, we did get a little bit of his childhood story. Even though the "writers" (using the term loosely here) only scratched the surface with Amelia, we got to understand where Zach got some of his strength and his compassion and an immense capacity for love.  Ian did have a little bit of time with Granya, but not nearly enough.  I feel that we got to know Zach more intimately over the six years, and yet, he left us longing for more!  As much as we can love Patrick and Ian, we weren't given AS MUCH about what made them who they were, and there wasn't that much "mystery" factor to them either.

Anne, I really can't recall.  It probably was Lily who let him out.

I think that's the key- Zach Slater as portrayed by Thorsten Kaye- was simply so awesome that he's left us all "longing for more" as you so ably put it!  We never got enough of him & that's why it's so hard to come to terms with the fact that he's really left us.

Like all of you, I can't let go of Zach either, and don't want to!  Thanks to my discs I can and DO watch him every single day, sometimes for several hours. Sometimes I even flick on a DVD in the middle of the night  on my bedroom TV if I wake up with a "Zach attack". It's not the same as waiting for that "something new" at one o'clock, but it gets me through the day (or night.)  I will never stop missing this incredible man, and I'm referring here to both Zach and Thorsten. Never having watched his OLTL or PC periods, I have to depend on the archives to see Patrick and Ian and wish there were more of them available. When I think how much I missed  while unaware that this gorgeous and talented hunk existed, I just want to cry. I am thankful though for the six years I have had with him as the center of my life, and am praying he will find a way to re-enter it soon and often.  Is it corny to say that he is now a part of me....an essential part?

Ladies, ITA with all you said. And it is so hard to let a character go.I guess since i went through this when TK first left when he played Patrick Thornhart i was HEARTBROKEN,and it is never easy to let go.Please don't get me wrong here i Loved the character of Zach Slater but honestly my fav character of his was Patrick Thornhart.Maybe because it was the first time i saw TK and was completely hooked from that moment on.I was thinking not only  a drop dead GORGEOUS man,but the man COULD ACT.I never watched a LOVE story on the soaps like P&M it was just simply BEAUTIFUL and wanted more as we only got 2 years of him on that show.I think it like your first LOVE you will always remember. Well, not great at all with my words but hope you undersatnd what i am trying to say here.lol.I LOVE all his characters he has portrayed and looking forward to seeing what's next.Hey i have my popcorn ready,to buy at the movies,Does anyone know when his movie comes out?SO can't wait.

OMG!!  Thank you sooooooooo much.  I can't believe I've never seen these clips.  How many freakin' Saturday mornings do I sit and watch clips and these escaped me!!  Not anymore!!

Anyway . . . I literally miss every single thing about Zach.  But what I miss the most is seeing his vunerable side.  LOVE when he is trying to be strong, but he breaks . . . even just a little.  It just kills me and nobody can do that like TK!!

Like the rest of you I adore all of TK's characters . . . but Zach??  SIGH . . . he is just IT for me.  And I want him back . . . NOW!!

And l would also fall in love with Hanibal Lecter if TK played him . . . and I'd make all kinds of excuses for why he does what he does.  LOL!!

Searose,

Anne and I had a long talk tonight, featuring this thread and how glad we are you started it.  Your misery has a lot of company right here in me.

We're all so used to talking about TK and about Zach (and his other characters, but the focus is mostly on what he's doing at the moment, and that's been Zach for some time now), I just don't know.  I know a lot of people who have stopped watching AMC altogether (and they're like me, they watched it long before he came on), but there's just nothing to hold us anymore.  TK symbolized, at least for me, what was RIGHT about AMC, and with him gone, well, I just couldn't care less about it anymore.

I didn't post much anywhere about it for a long time, I just felt like I'd been poleaxed or something.  Just stunned.  I mean, I knew it was coming, sure, but the reality of it...it was a long time before I could even watch clips anymore, because it just made me too sad.  Seeing what was, and knowing what might have been, all gone.  I was emotionally involved with that show for a lot of years, and Thorsten only got me more so.  It's not an exaggeration to say that I was devastated when he left, even though I was expecting it (and frankly, I was expecting it sooner than it actually happened).

The main reason I never want to lay eyes on AMC again is (I told Anne about this tonight and got her all fired up, sorry, Anne) I cannot BEAR to see that excuse of a Ryass Lavery in ZACH'S casino.  I'd rather see it burned to the ground than have him strutting his useless ass about in there.  I'd rather it dissolve in a shower of fire and take that idiot with it.

Anyway, what was I saying?  OH yes, thank you all so much for reminding me of so many wonderful moments.  I loved Zach locked in with the bird too, I laughed so hard I cried.  Smartass Zach was always a favorite, I guess because he wasn't much of a stretch for TK to play. At all!  TK endowed Zach with his own wonderful sense of humor.

I'm glad you guys are here, and I'm trusting in Kathy, Christy, and Gina to let us know when and where the next TK character will appear.  I can't wait, can y'all?

Kay...you know I can't wait either!  Any word on TK's future plans are definitely at the top of our lists.  And the Monkey in Zach's casino.....I have no words!!!  It's just not right!!!  I was an AMC fan for 30+ years, but now, I don't even miss it!  That's the sad part for me!
I am just all about TK and whatever his future plans may be.  TV. movies, whatever...I'm there!

Oh Froggie, I felt completely numb for a long time after Zach took Team Slater away from PV!  I tried everything, including traveling, to take my mind off him, but couldn't.  It was hard to watch the old scenes, because I would let out a huge sigh after each scene, sometimes just wanting to cry.  There was no way we could have aptly prepared ourselves for that empty feeling, even though we knew for months that it was coming.  TK's Zach was THE ONLY reason I continued to watch the otherwise crappy show that I once used to love.  I have said before, I was on the verge of quitting (after years of watching AMC daily) when Erica started her Desiree DuBois routine.  Lucky for me, in that moment, I heard the sexiest voice and dropped whatever I had in my hands, and turned around to LOOK at the TV, when I woke up from that trance, I was madly in love with one Zach Slater, LOL.  Never in my life have I ever fell in love with a fictional (?????) character, nor have I ever joined any celebrity's fan club, let alone posting endlessly on anyone's message-board!  Oh, the power of TK/Zach

Can not, WILL NOT, watch The Li'l Fucker and ThadeASS infect Zach's beloved casino!  I would rather Zach had torched the damn place!  The only wish now, is that the two worthless beings would accidentally set the place on fire and both would go up in flames with it!

I do feel a little better when I get to talk about Zach with you all.  I will do it more often now!

Quote:

No Pah, I don't think it is corny at all!  Zach did become a very important part of our lives for an hour a day for almost six years!  Not to mention, re-watching his scenes 1,473 times a day, talking about him, spending countless hours on this board, etc. LOL.  I am proud and grateful that Zach became a part of my life!

June, I loved your Hanibal Lecter remark! I laughed out loud but knew you were absolutely right. As far as TK is concerned I am a "no matter what" devotee. He has instilled in me so much love, trust, respect and a strong urge to protect him at all costs that I do truly think those feelings could overcome anything he might do, on or off screen. Perhaps I could be disappointed or sad, but would never be able to turn away from him.
Searose, like you I watched AMC for along time (22 yrs for me) but I just can't do it now with that HUGE VACANCY where Zach should be. As for Lavery, he has for some time now made me feel physically ill  (actually! For real!) every time he enters a scene. When he speaks (hisses, whispers), when his eyes bulge out of his head, when he clutches his chest with his hands, when his stupid mouth drops open and just hangs there,  when he acts all sanctimonious..... I find him unbearable!  Such a contrast with the subtlety so skillfully used by Zach.  I have NEVER understood why Ryan was ever touted as a desirable or honorable person, and it bugs the hell out of me that the writers have arranged for so many supposedly intelligent women to
fall all over him.  (Oh well, rant is over.)

Sure glad you all are here - At least we have somewhere to go  - If you look at the ratings carefully you can see that besides AMC being in deep trouble that OLTL is gradually improving in the ratings and depending on the category has overtaken AMC or is well on the way - AMC is unwatchable now but people are hoping that TK will appear on OLTL - I applaud his dedication to family and extended family - Peggy

Just breezing through but Hannibal Lechter that is pretty funny.  Hannibal had a very deep rooted reason why he turned to cannibalism and after reading the book Hannibal even drew empathy from me.  Well he didn't eat anyone who didn't deserve it. Now what if they did another  installment and TK got cast  do you think there is any possibility they could squeeze the Lavery character in and he could boil him up and wash him down with a nice Chianti?  Forget that probably get Ecoli. I really really enjoy horror genre and I hope this new flick is pee your pants scary.  I think this is one I will be seeing alone.

I went on the You Tube and saw some clips from when he played Patrick (like I had no idea who Patrick was) wow love the earring, the hair he was very very appealing and not a bad brogue for an non Irishman. He and his wife are terrific together in these roles.

This is true perhaps the first bottle of swill we snuck into the park to drink in the 80's Boone's Farm the Cristal of  gen X.   All jokes aside I really do think that I could see this man playing someone on the darkside he seems flexible and I think he would rock.  That's why I am hoping he is a devious, creepy, character in this new movie. You know what I wish they would do a remake of Polanski's, "Rosemary's Baby" I think he could fill John Cassavete's ( love this man even as a director) role wonderfully. Just considering the story back-drop it is a thought, just mine IMO Thinking out Loud.

But I don't think Zach should have to gag RyASS down, Chianti or not.

Isn't Janet From Another Planet about due for a visit?

She could infuse him with flavor in 1/4 the usual cooking time with that pressure cooker she used to sell on an infomercial.............

Missing TK/ZACH so so so  very much. My head is in a spin. And It's not getting any easier with time...

We all know that TK will not be returning to AMC, and there have been rumors that AMC are going to kill his character off (This gives me the chills!!) : But lets face it AMC will never be able to replace TK/ZACH with another actor...
As for AM/KENDALL's return to AMC, I do not know if her family are going to relocate, does anyone know?

For those of us who cannot let go of Zach no matter what, perhaps you 'like me', would like to see him on OLTL (Rescued from a boating accident and taken to LLanview Hospital - presumed dead only for AMC)

I have read that Susan would love to work with her HUBBY again.
With this in mind, I feel more positive.

OH ZACH!! OH ZACH!! WE WANT YOU BACK!!

That would be wonderful if Zach moved to Llanview.  Thats my main show now since Zach left AMC.    Huge gain for us and OLTL is right.

I agree. Zach is definitely my FIRST choice. I just can't stand the idea of losing that incredible man altogether, I don't care WHERE they put him as long as they put him somewhere that I can see him. Patrick would be my SECOND choice, and I would certainly welcome him if Zach is not an option.

You'll find a number of videos of Patrick and Marty here on OTKWS, as well.

Megan, that's an interesting observation about Rosemary's Baby- personally I had a very hard time watching that movie & it scared me to death at the time- but I was talking to TK about his upcoming movie in Marco Island over the weekend & that was exactly the comparison he made!  He said it was more in the Roman Polansky vein of thriller movies & he compared it to Rosemary's Baby - in that there is a "presence" in the apmt bldg that controls what happens there & he is Joe the Doorman, who is sort of the "gatekeeper" to this apmt.  It sounds very chilling & yet compelling & I'm sure it's going to be great!  Cannot wait to see it!

I hope you had a ball in Florida. Yes, I think Rosemary's Baby could be a great remake and feel he would be great as Guy Woodhouse.  I was the Freddy Kruger generation and did not get to see a lot of Polanski's  earlier stuff until the 90's but I will say one thing not much disturbs me but I do get the creeps even passing the Dakota; it is an eerie building.   This sounds like a good scary movie and I do hope Joe the Doorman does a better job than Eddie the superintendent in my building. He looks great with the mustache but I like facial hair anyway on a man.

I miss Zach. I know he had to do what was best for his family, but selfishly I say, I want Zach back. I miss Zendall. They are it for me. I don't think I want Kendall back without Zach, no I don't want Kendall back without Zach.  They will always have a hold on my heart. Always Only Them.

If TFIIC cared at all about keeping characters in character or any sort of storyline continuity (I know they don't - - - but what if.......), this is exactly what they would do.

It would make perfect sense that if Zach is not going to return to PV with Kendall, that he would move to the neighboring town so he could be away from the daily stress and pain and ICK of being near Kendall, the DPW, RyASS, etc., but be near the boys and be able to see them regularly.  It would be a good excuse for the boys not to be in every scene (they're with their father or with their mother) or when TK or AM need time off (she's in Llanview to bring the boys to Zach or whatever).

He could move to Llanview and discover some relationship between his mother's family and Patrick's family - - - cousins?

I can dream............

I'm sure if TK returns to OLTL, it'll be must-see-TV no matter who he plays!

I have been waiting for the day for TK to return to OLTL as Patrick to be reunited with his Angel Margaret.I SO loved how he only called her Margaret while everyone else calls her Marty. And now that Marty&John have broken up, (THANK YOU WRITERS),lol.this would SO be perfect for Patrick to return from the dead.

I thought I remember hearing that Susan Haskell's contract with OLTL was up in May? Anyone know anything about this?  I am so curious as to what these two will do in the future.

She said in Marco that she'd re-signed for another yr, I believe it is.  She also told us she'd love to work with her husband!

Kathy, that's exactly what I would like to see happen.  We have invested almost six years in Zach, and there can be continuity of his story if he goes to Llanview.  And being that both shows are ABC soaps, they can do cross over whenever TK is in California, or AM is in NYC.  Having said that, TIIC are really bad at explaining things when they are bringing people back from the dead, though I am sure beyond any doubt that no matter what they write, TK would make us believe what HE is delivering on screen.

Yes Mary, THANK YOU WRITERS, I cheered when Marty broke up with the (dare I borrow Spinelli-speak?) Stone Cold JMcB!  Marty can be paired with Zach OR Patrick, no matter who TK plays!

Sharon, thanks for the tidbit, I was really concerned whether TK/SH WANT to work together, but now you removed my doubts.

I am just killing time right now but if he returns to Llanview as the deceased husband of Marty ( I only watched a few of these clips but they are good together )  (thank the stars she broke up with that stone cold dude) I don't see how they would have him as Zach rather than Patrick?  IMO I don't know how they are going to explain his not returning to Pine Valley but Zach Slater would be better off relocating to the Artic because it was nice to see him back the few days (which I had to watch on here) but he is a little too good to continue on this never ending merry go round. If he doesn't go back to work with his wife, he'll have other options.  People can't all be blind in this business. JMO I see a serious side to this guy that would be compelling for me but not everyones taste.  JMO

Zach Slater could move to Llanview to live near his sons (but not have to live in PV with "KenLeeAss"), and he could find out that he's related to Patrick (though Amelia's side of the fam) - - - that would give him ties to everyone Patrick had ties with and explain why he looks the same as the gorgeous Patrick.

OR, they could resurrect Patrick from the dead, giving Mary the answers to her prayers and dreams!

I don't really know the Patrick character only the few clips I saw but could really get into to it.
The thought that he would be anywhere within close proximity to the Pine Valley idiots particularly any interaction with the Lavery putz( but maybe I would finally get my wish and Zach would knock the crap out that bastard) well I have always been more than candid about my feelings towards him.
I do think you are right kj this is all doable one way or the other.
